CURRICULUM
The curriculum provides for the total well rounded child, and varies with the child’s individual stage of development. Experiences in language development, mathematics, and reading readiness are combined with the appreciation of nature, science, art, and music. Sand, water play, and cooking, as well as exercise and activities for large muscle development and coordination are included in the well rounded program. Exposure to a variety of skills that promote development are implemented throughout the day. Curriculum plans are posted daily.
FACULTY
The faculty includes state certified teachers, and individuals trained and experienced in Early Childhood Education. The faculty receives 15 hours of training annually, First Aid, and CPR in order for Children’s Place to meet type A licensing requirements. The program also has access to a variety of early childhood professionals in the community for resource and referral. The Director has a B.A. in Early Childhood with a minor in Child Psychology. She has 25 years experience and has administered several New Orleans area programs for the past 20 years. Most recently, she was the director of the Metairie Park Country Day School Edisen House Early Childhood program for 15 years.
AGES
Children are placed from 6 weeks through 4 years of age. Children who are 4 years old by August of the following year are encouraged to apply to community pre-k programs. Working closely with the director to make sure proper placement occurs.
Children are welcome to return to Children’s Place if the secondary school suggests another year of growth for the child. Children who are 1, 2, or 3 years of age by January or August of the following year will move with their peers on January and/or August. Curriculum will be brought to your child if more stimulation is necessary to encourage growth.

HOURS
Children’s Place is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday – Friday. Full day, ¾ day, and ½ day options available as well as 2,3, or 5 days weekly. Children’s Place closes a week in June, August, and over the winter holidays; besides MLK day, 3 days at Mardi Gras, Easter Weekend, Memorial and Labor Days, and 2 and 1 ½ days at Thanksgiving.
PHYSICAL PLANT
The environment has been designed to encourage learning and social interaction with developmentally age appropriate materials. Children’s Place meets state and city requirements for health and fire safety.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Children’s Place feels it is vital for parents and faculty to maintain close contact for the welfare of each child. Communication is always open.

Children’s Place What to expect:
CP Faculty are educated and experienced in working with children
Children need at least 2 weeks to transition to a new environment
New environment/room…..new germs….children may be ill in the beginning
Sleep, eating, and daily routine may be affected
CP encourages all age children to follow their daily routine
CP follows the child’s lead
Dolphins (3 years) -
All children are unique and wonderful. All children are born with their own temperment and disposition. CP faculty will take the time to get to know your child’s individual needs.
Feeding:
*Lunch is served at 12:00 p.m.
*Hands are washed
*2 nutritious snacks are served daily, 9:15a.m. / 3:15p.m.*Independence is encouraged by children setting up area, helping serve themselves
(including, pouring, serving, and cleaning up).
*The CP menu is posted on the parent board.
Napping:
*1:00 - 3:00 rest time
*Includes……….Classical music, books quietly being read, faculty calmly messaging backs and sitting next to children.
*2:30 - lights on
Diapering/Potty:
*Faculty are trained on hygiene procedures set forth by La. Board of Health.
*Bleach water is used between diapering to clean. The solution is strong enough to kill germs, but not to hurt the child if contact occurs. The faculty are wonderful about keeping contact to a minimum. It can leave discoloration on clothing if contact does occur.
*Poopy diapers go outside.
*When the child shows readiness for toilet learning, and is using the toilet more often than not while still in their diapers, we will work with parents to help the child transition into underwear. Two accidents in a row (with-in the hour of each other) the child is placed back in a diaper. If a child shows distress, CP may suggest to wait.
*Please communicate to us any diapering/potty needs.
*Hands are washed after pottying.
Environment:
*Parents sign in and out daily.
*Dress for mess.
*The group breaks down into smaller groups for 1 on 1 learning.
*Curriculum is planned weekly and posted on the parent board in your child’s classroom.
* The daily routine, which is also on the parent board, is a combination of structure and free choice activities. All activities are hands on and encourage growth.
*Circle time is exposure to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, all through play……..
*Letter/Number of the week
*Children work daily on “Fun Sheets” that emphasis pre-reading, pre-math, pre-writing skills and concepts. The journals are kept in the classroom and parents are encouraged to view.
*Singing and reading occurs daily
*Languages development includes Question of the week and Story of the week
*Art work is the child’s work.
*The children have a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to stimulate growth and language development.
*Calm down is used for children who show signs of inappropriate behavior. The child is placed in calm down based on age……3 minutes for a 3 year old etc. * * *Hitting, kicking, pulling, biting, pinching, grabbing or not listening are all considered inappropriate behavior.
*Children spend 45 minutes each am and pm outside.
*Star of the week is an opportunity for each child to shine on a given week promoting self esteem.
*Summer time water play……..parents apply sunscreen.
*Check your child’s cubby daily for love notes or things to go home
ADMISSIONS
Children’s Place has a non-discriminatory policy. Spaces are filled on a first come first filled basis. An enrollment fee is placed to hold a spot and is non-refundable.
